Disc is Supporting National BCRP Awareness Week

The first-ever National Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRP) Awareness Week, an initiative by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships, is taking place from 17th March 2025, shining a spotlight on the invaluable role BCRPs play in tackling retail crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB). As a leading crime intelligence-sharing platform supporting many BID’s and BCRPs across the UK, Disc is proud to support this initiative, reinforcing the vital work of BCRPs and helping businesses, local authorities, and police forces work together to create safer high streets and retail environments.

The Importance of National BCRP Awareness Week

BCRPs have long been at the forefront of preventing crime by uniting businesses with local police and other key stakeholders. These partnerships provide intelligence-sharing networks, real-time crime reporting, and collaborative initiatives that help reduce repeat offending, improve safety, and support crime prevention efforts.

According to the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP), BCRPs operate across the UK, offering practical solutions such as:

  • Coordinating intelligence on prolific offenders
  • Supporting local crime reduction initiatives, including banning schemes
  • Strengthening ties between businesses, councils, and police to improve response times

Yet, despite their effectiveness, BCRPs are often under-recognised, and many businesses remain unaware of the crucial role they play in making retail spaces safer. National BCRP Awareness Week aims to change that by raising awareness and encouraging wider participation in these schemes.

Sophie Jordan, CEO at the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships says, “Most towns and cities in the UK are supported by a local BCRP, yet their highly effective work to keep communities safe is widely unknown outside the immediate industry sector. The Awareness Week seeks to change this by showcasing the complex and holistic approach to crime prevention provided by BCRP Methodology.”

How Disc is Helping to Drive BCRP Success

Disc is already a trusted tool used by hundreds of BCRPs across the UK, enabling businesses to share information securely and proactively tackle crime. By supporting this awareness week, Disc is reinforcing its commitment to crime prevention and helping BCRPs expand their reach and impact.

Here’s how Disc is contributing:

  1. Enhancing Crime Intelligence-Sharing – Disc allows BCRPs to share real-time information on shoplifting, ASB, and repeat offenders, ensuring all members are equipped with up-to-date intelligence to act swiftly.
  2. Strengthening Collaboration – By integrating with local police forces, BCRPs using Disc can improve offender identification and reduce response times.
  3. Supporting Local Banning Schemes – Disc helps enforce “Banned from One, Banned from All” policies, a proven strategy in reducing reoffending and improving local safety.
  4. Encouraging More Businesses to Get Involved – National BCRP Awareness Week presents an opportunity to educate businesses on the benefits of joining their local BCRP and using Disc to report and track crime.

Steve Lang, Managing Director of Disc explains, “As retail crime and anti-social behaviour continue to challenge businesses across the UK, the role of BCRPs has never been more important. National BCRP Awareness Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the tireless work these partnerships do in reducing crime and making our communities safer. Disc is proud to be supporting this this fantastic NABCP initiative, by providing the tools and intelligence-sharing capabilities that empower BCRPs to be even more effective. We encourage all businesses to get involved, support NABCP and help make a real difference.”

Why Businesses Should Engage with Their Local BCRP

Retailers, hospitality businesses, and local authorities all benefit from stronger crime prevention strategies, and BCRPs are central to making this happen. Engaging with a BCRP and using a platform like Disc ensures that businesses are:

  • Better protected from shoplifting, fraud, and repeat offenders
  • Part of a wider intelligence network that enhances local safety
  • Working proactively to reduce crime, rather than reacting to incidents
